The Spalding Hoophall Classic now has a farm system.

The inaugural Junior HoopHall Classic will be held Saturday through Monday, running in conjunction with the top high school boys basketball event in the country. Thirty-three boys teams from throughout the northeast will compete in the divisions.

The Saturday and Sunday games will be played at the new Springfield College Fieldhouse, while Monday’s championships will take place at centre court at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

“In terms of the quality of teams and geographical location of the teams, we’re definitely happy,” said Colin Tabb, director of BasketBull, which is running the junior tournament. “Our goal was to get around 40 teams. We’re close. It’s the first year we’re doing it and it’s a new market for us. We haven’t really run any tournaments that are focused on travel, town, suburban and CYO teams. Obviously we have some AAU teams in there, but most AAU teams are not organized in the winter.”
