Milford Skills Challenge Recap
January 30, 2012
This past week the BasketBull Staff traveled to Milford for its latest Skills Challenge. The staff quickly found out that Milford is a hot bed of young basketball talent. Third graders Dillon Robinson and Leia Foyer got things kicked off in a big way with scorching scores in the Hot Shot Competition, which helped propel both to winning it all in their respective groups. Fourth graders Jenna Walsh and Gavin Neumeyer led the charge to win their brackets with consistent play throughout the competition. Madaline McDonald and Eric Moore both used excellent "Lay Up" scores to help pave the way to their respective victories in the fifth grade division. The sixth grade boys and girls divisions proved to be our most competitive yet. The sixth grade girls division had a handful of players who could have claimed victory, however in the end Taylor Walsh emerged victorious. The sixth grade boys looked to be comfortably in the hands of Co-Winner Sam Nassar's for most of the competition, however the second round Hot Shot score of 35 by Nicolas Perry allowed him to share the championship honors with Sam. The seventh grade girls division crown was captured by Jess McQuade who was extremely strong on the free throw line. The boys seventh grade division proved to be a three man race with Zach Tavitian and Thomas Gameberdella claiming Skills Challenge crowns, however TJ Gentley also had an excellent showing in the boys seventh grade division.
