East Longmeadow - Skills Challenge Recap
February 23, 2012
In what turned out to one of the largest turnouts for a BasketBull Skills Challenge thus far, the participants of the East Longmeadow Skills Challenge did not dissapoint with their effort nor their performances. Two hours before the event we knew we were going to have a focused group as several players were in the gym working on their game and getting an early understanding of the Skills Challenge rules. One of these players - Anthony Costa - would go on the win the 8th graade boys division, using two excellent Hot Shot scores to help propel him to victory.
The 7th grade boys division was hotly contested between Issaiah Jackson and Liam Jackson, with Issaiah Jackson pulling out a very close victory. The 7th grade girls division was just as competative with Remani Lizani edging out Paris Lizana and Mckinley White. The 6th grade boys and girls divisions were won by Justin Feliciano and Olivia Acevedo, respectively. The 5th grade boys division crown was claimed by Jaquan Johnson, who used consistent scores in each competition to pull away from the 5th grade pack. The 4th grade boys divison saw over 10 participants in its division and after adding up each players scores any player could have won with a few shots going in here and there. However, Jadrien Feliciano hit big shots in each of his Hot Shot turns to claim the 4th grade boys championship. In the 4th grade girls division Kayla Maylor used a balanced score sheet to claim victory.
The 3rd grade boys division in East Longmeadow was both our largest and most competative division so far throughout any Skills Challenge. With over fifteen players competing for the 3rd grade championship. At the end it came down to Brad Moccio edging out Trey Hodge by 4 points in our tightest contest yet! We can tell both of these guys will be players for years to come!
